Because most of the comedy is built around Verdoux attempting to escape punishment I found it taxing instead of funny and I hardly laughed unless Martha Raye was on screen being absolutely hysterical. I agree that senseless killing on a mass scale (by war or companies or government) becomes so overwhelming that it is not processed in the same way as one man committing a murder (OR FOURTEEN) and that punishing the greedy individual without fixing a system based on greed is flawed but this doesn't feel like the story to end with that moral!
